The structure of the cathedral constructed at the behest of Bishop Herbert de Losinga is primarily in the Norman style, Building started in 1096, was completed in 1145 and still retains the greater part of its original stone structure. The present spire is a late 15th century addition. The cloisters are the second largest in England and the cathedral close is one of the largest in England with more people living within it than any other close. [q.v. Wikipedia]
